AFL returns to Manuka Oval this Friday night with the game between Giants and North Melbourne in the JLT Community Series. This is the 1st of 5 scheduled national level competition games. The following week, history will be made when an AFLW game will be played between the women from the Giants and Western Bulldogs, with 3 AFL games featuring the Giants against Port Adelaide, Western Bulldogs and Melbourne over the winter.
What is the JLT Community Series?
The JLT Community Series is the new name of the AFL’s pre-season competition after the League struck a partnership with insurance firm Jardine Lloyd Thompson. All 18 clubs will play three matches over a four-week period, allowing one bye for every club before Round One of the premiership season. There is no pre-season Grand Final.
A host of rules only apply for the JLT Community Series:
- Players receive nine points for a ‘supergoal’ kicked from outside the 50m arc
- A player awarded a 50m penalty that takes him inside 50m can choose to kick from outside the arc for nine points
- There are no score reviews
- Rookie-listed players are available for selection
Clubs can use up to six interchange players with unlimited rotations
