overview

Established in the late 1920’s as Canberra’s original cricket ground, historic Manuka Oval now boasts an amazing functions and events centre. Manuka Oval Functions & Events Centre is one of Canberra’s most unique functions venues that is sure to impress.

The word ‘Manuka’ is a Maori word for ‘tea-tree’ and would have been used in naming the Oval Precinct due to it's close proximity to the Manuka shopping complex. This shopping centre was named Manuka on Walter Burley Griffins original plans for Canberra.

The precinct retains much of its original tree planting from the 1920s, with now large mature specimens of cypresses, poplars, oaks and elms defining the circular space of the sports ground. The enclosure excludes the hustle and bustle of the surrounding suburbs, and assists visitors in being absorbed in the venue and its associated events.

From the oval, the tower of Saint Christopher's Cathedral and Red Hill are the only outside visible features. The Curators cottage, its hedged garden and the Lord Taverners Garden add a certain charm to the environment.

Today the venue hosts many local and National AFL matches, as well as local cricket and the PMs XI. Manuka Oval is ten just minutes from Parliament House and the airport, with plenty of on-site parking.  Click here for a parking map.
