MAJOR EVENTS ACT 2014 – IMPORTANT SPORTING EVENTS

Major Events Act 2014

The Major Events Act 2014 (The Act) provides a regime for dealing with major events so they can be hosted in a safe manner and includes provisions for crowd management.

Major sporting events at Manuka Oval and GIO Stadium Canberra (including Canberra Raiders, ACT Brumbies, Giants, international cricket and Big Bash League fixtures) may be declared as ‘Important Sporting Events’ under this legislation.

Under the Major Events Act and subsequent declaration as ‘Important Sporting Events’, significant fines (up to $8,000) now apply for those who breach conditions of entry at GIO Stadium Canberra and Manuka Oval for offences relating to :

  • Unauthorised entry to the event venue and field of play
  • Interference with the event
  • Possessing a prohibited item

This is part of Venues Canberra’s ongoing commitment to providing a safe and enjoyable environment for all attending major sporting events at our venues.

Patrons are reminded that on event days, issues can be reported by texting ‘ASSIST’ to 0455 883 228.

Public Transport to the Sydney Thunder vs Adelaide Strikers match Sunday 14 January

Free travel on Transport Canberra bus and light rail services is included with tickets for inbound services to the event.

Present your match ticket if asked by the bus driver or light rail officer.

Use Transport Canberra’s Journey Planner to plan your trip with Manuka Oval as the destination.

Due to the finish time of the event, free shuttle services will be available for people departing to Woden/Tuggeranong and City/Belconnen interchanges after the match. These free shuttle services will leave from outside the East Gate at Manuka Oval.

Patrons need to make their own arrangements home from the bus interchanges.

The annual gala awards celebrate the excellence, resilience, commitment and innovation achieved by sportspeople, volunteers and local sporting organisations and clubs. Looking ahead, Manuka Oval is all set to embark on its 100th year with renewed vigour and a commitment to being a boutique venue for elite sports. Next year we’ll invite you to be part of the next chapter in Manuka Oval’s celebrated history.

International Cricket announced for 2023/2024 Summer Season

Cricket Australia has released the International schedule of matches for the upcoming 2023/2024 cricket season.

  • Women’s International T20 Australia v South Africa Sat, 27 Jan 2024
  • Women’s International T20 Australia v South Africa Sun, 28 Jan 2024
  • Men’s International ODI Australia v West Indies Tue, 6 Feb 2024

“We’re so happy to be able to share Manuka Oval with the cricketing world again this coming season,” Cricket ACT CEO Olivia Thornton said.

“Canberra is home to one of the truly great boutique cricket grounds in the world, and we’re absolutely thrilled to have the South African Women backing up their World Cup Final appearance, as well as the return of the West Indies Men’s side for a second consecutive summer.

The Prime Minister’s XI match in December will be confirmed by Cricket Australia in due course.

Fans can secure early bird ticket prices by joining the Australian Cricket Family pre-sale that commences on Wednesday, 17 May. Cricket Australia is offering ACF members a 15% discount for tickets purchased in the presale on select seating categories. This offer will only apply in the pre-sale, before tickets go on sale to the general public on Tuesday, 6 June.

Celebrity Charity Games at Manuka Oval – Friday 17 February

Alex Ross from Sydney Thunder joins the Australian Cricketers’ Association Masters’ Tour of Canberra as they play an exhibition match against the ACT Masters on Friday 17 February at Manuka Oval.

That will be followed by another charity match between the ACT Chief Minister’s XI and Cricket ACT Chairman’s XI.
